May Under the Microscope

This week has been a funny one for me. I have been feeling deflated, and insecure, and lost. All because I had spent the entirety of last Sunday comparing the content on Olive & Clo with the content created by others, more specifically that of established influencers. Vying over their photos, their fashion, their appearance and their following. I even subconsciously started convincing myself that Olive & Clo would never ever see that same level of success. That I am a fool to produce any content at all. And who am I to put myself out there on social media in hopes that maybe, someday, I might become just as good as them.

So with all that nonsense weighing on my mind and with May well and truly over, I thought I would take this opportunity to look back and reflect on the month that was and hopefully pull myself out of this ridiculous mind-frame, just in time to enjoy my Friday and the weekend ahead.

May in Review:
Personal Achievements:

  • Explored 3 waterfalls: Kondalilla Falls, Cedar Creek Falls and Serenity Falls.
  • Hiked up a Glasshouse Mountain, Mount Ngungun.
  • Watched the sunset over Brisbane CBD from Kangaroo Point and Wilsons Outlook.
  • Watched the sunrise at Alexandria Bay and stayed the night in the lovely Noosa.
  • Maintained a fairly healthy eating month – adhering to a Ketogenic/Paleo lifestyle.

Wedding Achievements:

  • Met with my wedding dress designer and established a design, concept and expectation.
  • Updated the wedding budget.
  • Applied necessary pressure on my mother to finalise her guest list.

Olive & Clo Achievements:

  • Created and published 13 blog posts for the month of May (averaging 3 posts per week).
  • Invested more time into Olive & Clo’s social media platforms (Twitter|Bloglovin’|Instagram).
  • Had a photo reposted on Tigani Lux’s Instagram account on the 15th of May and another photo reposted on Arnhem Clothing’s Instagram account on the 29th of May.

Goals for June:

  • Finalise wedding guest list and invitations ready for distribution by the end of the month.
  • Continue living, exploring and going on more adventures.
  • Maintain a consistent blogging schedule of 3 posts per week and invest in a new website layout.
  • Stop comparing myself to other content creators and letting myself feel anything less than proud of Olive & Clo.

A good half-an-hour has passed since I began writing this post and I can honestly say that I am feeling a little better about myself, a touch lighter. Because man, I have achieved a lot this month and how I could have possibly lost sight of all that is simply beyond me. Absolutely ridiculous.

Anyways, I am going to leave it here. But if anybody else reading this has ever caught themselves feeling a similar way, please feel free to share! I would adore nothing more. And at the very least know that I am not the only special-case in this blog-verse.

Much love, Linda xo

This is a great idea to do a sum up of all your achievements/goals every month. And don’t get disheartened – I think your content’s great 🙂 and congratulations on the engagement! We’re getting married in a month and a half – deep in DIY stages :p

    • June 2, 2017 / 7:42 am

David! You’ll have to do one for May. It’s pretty humbling to see what you have achieved in one month. I can too easily lose sight of that!

Thank you so much! And you too! Congrats! 🎈🎊 🍾

DIY would be a killer. Have all the centerpieces been made? Your partner should do a wedding blog series! I would LOVE reading that! ☺️☺️

      • June 2, 2017 / 8:26 pm

I will, I always love a good blog series. Thank you for the idea!

Thank you! We’re stacking a load of our Penguin clothbounds for our centrepieces and then getting a florist to do a little posy of flowers on top of each one. I’m also making all our signs ‘Welcome to the Wedding’ ‘Pick a seat not a side’ – I’ve become a dab hand at hand lettering :p

I think she’d like to, I’ll pass on the idea to Charlotte, she’s got so much good advice, I reckon she could be a wedding planner 🙂

        • June 3, 2017 / 7:54 pm

David! Your centrepieces sound like a dead-set dream! How unique and visually stunning those penguin clothbound are going to be! I love to read – so that would be right up my alley!

I think I need to start another blog series myself. It would help with maintaining motivation and save from having to think up a new idea each week. One is not enough!

          • June 4, 2017 / 6:11 am

I’m hoping we can make them live up to the dream Pinterest images I keep finding! Are you going to have any bookishness in your wedding? We’re both book mad so we couldn’t resist!

I have to say it’s good to do a little something every day. I sort of treat it like tweeting – say when I can’t fit something into 140 characters I just start there and keep going. I love the travel things you’ve been doing 🙂

You should never feel insecure about your blog. You are a great blogger and you have great content and comparing it to others who’ve been around this world for years is never good. Just do you, girl. You’ll make it 🙂 Also, congratulations and good luck on the wedding!! <3

Its just so easy to get lost amongst it all 😣

It’s hard not to get blog envy, but I don’t think you have anything to worry about – your photos are just stunning! I’m getting blog envy of yours right now! x

    • June 3, 2017 / 7:51 pm

Oh Stephh! You have honestly made my Saturday night with a few simple kind-hearted words! Thank you so much for dropping by and doing so 🙂

I have just read your about me and I am already a big fan! Just followed and cannot wait to do some catching up on your life 🙂 xo

You are most welcome Kaylae! 😍❤️

If you feel blog envy for other blogs it makes me feel very ashamed of mine😣. Your blog layout and images are what I aspire to!

    • June 5, 2017 / 5:14 am

Anee! Your blog layout and content is fantastic! I wish I spoke about fashion in greater detail. 😔

I have since gotten over this blog-envy business. I am not going to allow it to suck the joy out of a second week! And don’t let it do the same to you my love!

But thank you for your lovely words. 😍❤️

As always you put into words the worries of my heart. I get that feeling a lot too. Why am I doing this? Who cares whether I wore a pretty dress or baked a cake? Who’s going to read my silly blog? etc You did the best thing by taking stock of all you’ve achieved. That’s something I still struggle with at work and in my general life too! Well done you for pushing past your own doubts and insecurities, and for smashing May! You achieved a hell of a lot and Olive & Clo for one is just FABULOUS!

    • June 5, 2017 / 6:38 pm

Oh Lou! You and me both!
Sometimes, feeling this way, just can’t be helped!

I hear all your worries. But you and I will get through it together. And I dare say, that even after a few months or years .. we will still be dealing with same self doubt. But as long as we stand back up – that’s all that matters. ❤️😍

Thank you for your lovely and kind-hearted words as always Lou. ❤️😍

OMG we definitely are all our own harshest critic! Your blog is amazing and I always look forward to your stories, and especially the amazing photos. I find myself comparing all of the time and it makes me want to stop everything as well, but we just need to remember that we are our own kind of unique and if people don’t love that, then they’re not your people! Your people will be there as long as you stay true to you! Keep it up girl!!

    • June 5, 2017 / 6:42 pm

Oh! Stahppp it! Haha. Kelsie, you are much too lovely. ❤️😍😱

And with the new week, I could not agree with you more. We got to keep doing us. Because there is no one better!

      Thanks babe! 😍🌹

  9. June 5, 2017 / 3:46 pm

Quiet frankly, I think your blog and photos are high up there with more seasoned influencers and I think it’s only a matter of time before everything else follows suit! You’re an incredible story teller, blogger, photo taker and model! I truly enjoy your blog!
And you’ve achieved quite a bit!
Here’s to an even better “June under the microscope”!

    • June 5, 2017 / 6:47 pm

I am floored by your comment.
      Floored Asaake. Floored.

I’m going to print this comment and frame it up at work. And at home. And in the bathroom.

So whenever I am feeling down, I’ll look up and have your encouragement lift me back up.

Here’s to an amazing June for BOTH of us! 😘

Thank you so much Tania ☺️☺️

    • June 21, 2017 / 8:28 am

Oh Mariam! Thank you for injecting my Wednesday with love and your kindness. 💚☺️

  11. June 24, 2017 / 10:07 am

I do not say this lightly, mostly because I don’t like the term, but your blog is goals to me (see, not even sure I’ve said it correctly) which you can probably tell from my slightly stalker(ish) behaviour of going and reading and liking your older posts :/
The standard of your blog is brilliant, you’re already comparable, in my opinion, to the likes of ‘Cupcakes and Cashmere’, and I check her blog out everyday AND she has multiple contributors 🙂
Anyways.. I’ve gushed enough, and embarrassed myself x

Oh my goodness Sarah. I already, absolutely ADORE you! ❤️❤️ Thank you so, so much for your kind-hearted, supportive and encouraging words beautiful lady 😊😊 – You’ve honestly made my entire weekend. And ohh, I cannot thank you enough!

I have EVERY intention of binge reading your beautiful blog. I need more people like you in my life. So thank you for jumping in with 2 feet! 😍😘😍
