Burleigh Heads National Park, Goldcoast

Last Saturday, Rhett and I travelled south to Burleigh Heads for an afternoon of sun, surf and sand. Despite it being a fairly brisk winter day, the crowds were out with a vengence, making maintaining any sort of personal space damn near impossible. Nevertheless, Rhett and I made the most of it and by the end of the day, found ourselves barely noticing the people around us.

So most of you guys might not know this, but when visiting Burleigh Heads, it is an unspoken rite of passage to take an Instagram photo sitting on top of a pretty precarious rock, otherwise known as the ‘Cock Rock’.

I know, I know. What an outrageously unfortunate name to give a popular landmark. And I’m not going to lie, Rhett did catch me wearing a stupid grin on my face whilst snickering to myself on more than one occasion. I can’t say he was too impressed to find his 27-year-old fiancΓ© was actually going on 14.

Unfortunate name aside. You would all be pleased to know that I once again endangered my risk-taking-ass to get to said Rock. Despite how popular this location may have seemed (if Instagram was anything to go by #cockrock), accessing the rock required a great deal of scrambling, and balancing between problematic-looking boulders, and a thick skin for abrupt vertical drops. Needless to say, I found this adventure a tad uncomfortable.

So this particular ‘photo-shoot’ lasted a grand total of 4 minutes. Neither Rhett nor I possessed the nerve to hang around for much longer. And despite how visually stunning the views were and how exhilarating the experience turned out to be, I was definitely relieved once my foot touched solid ground.

Should any of you guys find yourselves visiting this area, I would recommend checking this little gem out. Looking back, it was definitely worth the effort and I am so pleased that I actually had the nerve to follow through. Just make sure you are wearing the appropriate footwear (which I most certainly was not – go figure!) and you are sporting a clear, level head.

As always, happy Monday everybody and I hope you guys have a spectacular start to your week.
Until next time, stay safe.
Love Linda, xo

The scenery is amazing, but I can’t believe they actually call that poor rock by that kind of name. 😁
